Unveiling the Four Major Starting Techniques for Diesel Generator Sets
The moment the diesel generator starts up, the starting system is like a gentle breeze, slowly awakening the diesel engine. Starting the motor gently, like a melodious prelude, sets the tone of the engine. The battery quietly exerts its force, injecting vitality and energy into the entire system. The generator operates quietly, keeping watch for the moment when the engine is approaching. The regulator is meticulously adjusted to ensure that the engine achieves the appropriate power output. Lighting equipment illuminates the path ahead like a bright lamp, adding a touch of elegance to the departure. A variety of instruments and signal devices work precisely to ensure the engine starts smoothly. The start-up system, like a magnificent musical piece, leads the diesel engine onto a new journey.
Diesel generators usually have several different starting methods:
1. Manual start-up
When starting a low-power diesel engine, manual methods such as pulling a rope or hand-cranking start are usually adopted, which is one of the most convenient ways.
2. Motor starts
Dc motor starting has been widely applied in various automotive engines and medium and small power diesel generator sets. The starting method of this engine uses lead-acid batteries as the energy source and utilizes a dedicated DC starter motor to rotate the crankshaft of the diesel engine to achieve the starting of the diesel engine.
3. Ignite the small gasoline engine
Some large and medium-sized construction machinery and tractors that often operate in harsh environmental conditions such as outdoors and extremely cold environments sometimes also use specially designed small gasoline engines as starting devices.
4. Compressed air is required for startup.
Medium and large-sized diesel engines with a diameter exceeding 150 millimeters are usually started with compressed air. The current main method is to use the start control valve to send high-pressure air into the air distributor controlled by the camshaft. Then, the air distributor distributes the high-pressure air to the start valves of each cylinder in the power stroke according to the operating sequence of the diesel engine, causing them to open and allowing compressed air to flow into the cylinder to push the piston and drive the crankshaft to rotate. After reaching a certain rotational speed, stop the gas supply and then operate the fuel injection pump to supply fuel.
To sum up, the motor starting system is widely used in diesel generator sets and is a common starting method.
